Zechariah 14

A day of the Lord is coming, Jerusalem, when your possessions will be plundered and divided up within your very walls.

I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it; the city will be captured, the houses ransacked, and the women raped. Half of the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be taken from the city.

Then the Lord will go out and fight against those nations, as he fought on a day of battle.

On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south.

You will flee by my mountain valley, for it will extend to Azel. You will flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the Lord my God will come, and all the holy ones with him.

On that day there will be neither sunlight nor cold, frosty darkness. It will be a unique day—a day known only to the Lord—with no distinction between day and night. When evening comes, there will be light.

On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half of it east to the Dead Sea and half of it west to the Mediterranean Sea, in summer and in winter.

The Lord will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one Lord, and his name the only name.

10 The whole land, from Geba to Rimmon, south of Jerusalem, will become like the Arabah. But Jerusalem will be raised up high from the Benjamin Gate to the site of the First Gate, to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the royal winepresses, and will remain in its place. 11 It will be inhabited; never again will it be destroyed. Jerusalem will be secure.

12 This is the plague with which the Lord will strike all the nations that fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh will rot while they are still standing on their feet, their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths. 13 On that day people will be stricken by the Lord with great panic. They will seize each other by the hand and attack one another. 14 Judah too will fight at Jerusalem. The wealth of all the surrounding nations will be collected—great quantities of gold and silver and clothing. 15 A similar plague will strike the horses and mules, the camels and donkeys, and all the animals in those camps.

16 Then the survivors from all the nations that have attacked Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship the King, the Lord Almighty, and to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles. 17 If any of the peoples of the earth do not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord Almighty, they will have no rain. 18 If the Egyptian people do not go up and take part, they will have no rain. The Lord will bring on them the plague he inflicts on the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles. 19 This will be the punishment of Egypt and the punishment of all the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Tabernacles.

20 On that day holy to the Lord will be inscribed on the bells of the horses, and the cooking pots in the Lord’s house will be like the sacred bowls in front of the altar. 21 Every pot in Jerusalem and Judah will be holy to the Lord Almighty, and all who come to sacrifice will take some of the pots and cook in them. And on that day there will no longer be a Canaanite in the house of the Lord Almighty.

Zechariah 14

His feet shall stand upon the Mount of Olives

'And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west'

Zechariah 14:4

In Short

Zechariah14 shows us the bigger picture leading up to the Endtime and what follows thereafter in the millennial kingdom. It is the framework in which fragments of preceding chapters can be put in place. Chapter 14 starts with the developments of the 20th century, in which a military force, under the guise of a 'returning Jewish population', slowly but surely confiscates the so called 'promised land' from the people that have lived there for thousands of years, the Palestinians, the true people of the Lord. The cruelty of the military oppression however, is not able to take them out: half of them remain in the land while the other half come to live in exile. Toward the Endtime, the Lord will come to their rescue. He will battle on their behalf which will coincide with an earthquake that will split the Mount of Olives. There will be atmospheric and geographic changes to the land of Israel and probably to the whole world. The persons that participated in the century long war against 'Jerusalem', the city and its true people, will perish through horrifying judgments of the Lord. After the second coming of Jesus, the whole earth will serve the Lord, by going up to Jerusalem each year at the Feast of Tabernacles. Then the profane will no longer defile the holy but it will be the other way around: the holy will sanctify the profane, even the bells of horses and the pots in the city. Only then will Jerusalem truly be 'the holy city'.

Introductory remarks

Very important in understanding Bible prophecy is the distinction between four different moments at which the 'holy land' is attacked.

1. The first attack started around 1900, when the British Empire and later the US empire used Zionism to take over the control of the land of Israel in order to capture the complete Middle East. Zionist Israel is nothing but a colonial project of the empire, that expelled half of the indigenous population and replaced them by their agents, that were disguised as 'Jews seeking a homeland'. Oftentimes the Europeans that set out to Israel as their new country had no knowledge of the schemes they were made part of. On the contrary, all the gangs, guerrillas, paramilitary forces and political parties were agents of the empire and were guided by the same freemasonry that their masters in the USA were members of. This first attack on the country is the longest of all, taking at least a century, and is described in the first two verses of Zechariah 14. The Palestinians call it 'the Nakba',  'the catastrofe'.

2. The second attack will start directly after the 'abomination of desolation', the defilement of a holy place, which is spoken of by Daniel 9:27 and Daniel 12:11 and by Mathew 24:15. The most clear connection between the abomination and the following desolation in the form of an attack, is Daniel 11:39-45. There we see 'the king' (the leader of Israel) giving honor to the 'god of fortresses' (the US-empire, represented by the president) in 'the stronghold' (two words 'strong' and 'hold', seemingly two fortresses, we think to be the Al Aqsa Mosque and the Omar Mosque). Then Daniel 11 continues with te Endtime attack on Israel from the South (Egypt) and from the North (Iran). This attack is also described in Isaiah 28:14-19 as a consequence of a covenant of the leaders in Jerusalem with 'death and Hades', which is again an indication of the US-empire, which has brought nothing but worldwide death and destruction. According to Zechariah 13:8, two thirds of the population of the land will be killed in the attack by the king of the North.

3. The third attack will take place at the end of a 3.5 years of dominance by the US-empire, when the fifth vial of God's wrath will be poured out on the throne of the beast (the empire) which will darken his kingdom (Revelation 16:10,11). By then, the throne of the beast will be in Jerusalem, which will be rebuilt for its final purpose: total digital world control. The throne of the beat will be 'the image of the beast' (Revelation 13:15), the digital prison by which a tyrannical rule will envelope the world. We do not exactly know what the fifth vial consists of but we conjecture this to be the Palestinian resistance, that will have been able to persevere under God's protection. One third of the population would survive the attack from the North. That one third would be brought 'in the fire', which is an apt description of Palestinian life since 1948 and even more since October 7, 2023. The Palestinian resistance will manage to take control of Jerusalem and to disable 'the image of the beast'. With the empire turned dark and the digital prison deactivated, the power of the beast rapidly shrinks. The last thing he can do is to recapture Jerusalem in order to reestablish the image of the beast and to reactivate his world control. Therefore all armies are summoned to Jerusalem (vial 6), to a place called Armageddon, where they will be terminated by the return of Jesus (Revelation 19) at which the 7th and last vial will totally destroy the US homeland with all of its allies.

4. The fourth attack will take place some time after the return of Jesus, possibly a few months or even a few years later, when the holy land is largely rebuilt and the true people of the Lord, the Palestinians and the Jews that supported them, are reunited in the land, under the protection of the most High. At the start of the millennial kingdom, there will still be some armies of the destroyed empire, that managed to escape the destruction at Armageddon. Perhaps they were put later in line and when they had heard about the destruction at Jerusalem, they had returned to their bases. Looking at the description of Ezekiel 38 and 39, these armies will be the Russian and the Turkish armies. At the moment of their invasion of the land, they will be destroyed.

These four different occasions on which armies enter the holy land comprise one of the most ill-understood parts of Bible prophecy. Many interpreters put the fourth attack as the very first. Often, the first three are all put at the end of 3.5 year great tribulation. These explanations are mostly the result of bad reading combined with political opportunism i.e. Zionism. We will now enter into an explanation of Zechariah 14

Verse 1

One of the most important things of Zechariah 14 is that the first two verses are not a description of a short siege of a few years but that their scope is about one century of land theft and a constant brutal military oppression. There are at least three indications for this.

(1) '...your possessions will be plundered and divided up within your very walls'. This first indication shows that this is no regular warfare in which the plunder is taken away from the conquered and transported to the homeland of the conqueror. That happened in all earlier sieges on Jerusalem. Nebuchadnezzar plundered city and temple around 600 BC and took many people and valuables with him to Babel. The same happened when the Romans twice destroyed the city. Everything of  value was taken to Rome. But here, the 'possessions would be divided up within the walls'. The reason for this is that the invaders were not after gold or silver but after land. It was the land that was divided within the walls. In 1948, that happened within the territory of Palestine itself, in Tel-Aviv, taking 55% of it. That was according to a resolution which the US-empire had pressed many UN-members to vote in favor of. It would become one of the few resolutions the 'state of Israel' ever listened to - at least in part - ignoring every article that had to do with the respecting of Palestinian life and security. All following resolutions curtailing their land grab were completely ignored, leaving the millions of Palestinians almost without any land to live on. For in 1967, with the six-day war, the Zionists occupied all of the land that was assigned to the Palestinians. The Palestinians were made strangers on the remaining 45% of their own land. As time passed by the Zionists took more land, building illegal settlements, enclosing Palestinians in small enclaves which were separated by high walls and roadblocks and checkpoints. This 'plundering of the possessions' of the Palestinian people indeed took place within the city or Jerusalem, where the Knesset has resided since 1950. We find this stealing and dividing of land among the preferred population also in Daniel 11:39, in combination with the honoring of the 'god of fortresses' in the 'stronghold' - the abomination of desolation: 'He...will greatly honor those who acknowledge him. He will make them rulers over many people and will distribute the land at a price'. Here we see those that align with Zionism being treated as first class citizens, made rulers (think of the settlers Ben-Gvir and Smotrich) and enable to buy mansions in the illegal West-Bank settlements.

Verse 2

In Verse 2, we find two other clues for our thesis that this is not a siege of a few years, like in 600 BC or 70 AD but that this is about the century long military occupation of Palestine and the oppression of its indigenous population, the true people of the most High.

(2) 'Half of the city will go into exile' - For half of a city to go into exile there has to be time but in none of the last three attacks in Israel there won't be any time for a true exile. (a) There won't be any time at the start of the Endtime. Then the 'king of the North' will invade the land under enormous rocket fire. People are advised to flee the city by Jesus in Mathew 24:15 but that is no exile. The reign of the king of the North will be short lived for once he will have exposed himself, he will be exterminated by the empire. That will probably happen within half a year. Then everyone wil return and start the rebuilding of the totally destroyed towns and infrastructure. (b) There also won't be time for an exile at the end of the Endtime, when the armies will be destroyed at Armageddon before they will be able to enter the city. (c) At the beginning of the millennial kingdom, there wil be even less time for an exile. The remaining armies won't even be able to approach the city but they will be destroyed upon Judea's mountains.

(3) But the rest of the people will not be taken from the city. Like the second clue, this doesn't make sense in each of the above attacks 2-4. (a) The disastrous attack of the king of the North will lead to death and destruction in Israel for two thirds of the people, assuming that Zechariah 13:8 also applies to this attack. Those who won't flee will be killed. Nobody will survive while remaining in the city, certainly not 'half of the city'. (b) and (c) The city will not be taken for the return of Jesus and the beginning of his reign will totally destroy the approaching armies.

All of this means that Zechariah 14:1,2 only makes sense in the context of what happened during the past century, the 'Nakba', in which the European and American 'Jews'  - who are 'goyim' for more than 50%  - invaded the land. So in the view of the Bible the Zionists that pretend to be 'the Jewish people that want to return to their homeland', are liars - just like Jesus says in Revelation 3:9: 'those of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews and are not, but lie'. The Bible sees these self proclaimed Jews as 'all the nations' that are gathered to Jerusalem 'to fight against it'. These Zionists took over the land from the true Israeli's, the Palestinians, under military occupation. What is mentioned in verse 2 is exactly what happened in 1948, when Zionist paramilitary armies destroyed many cities and villages of the Palestinians, slaughtering hundreds of of them, raping women, driving them away into refugee camps, where they still are after many decades. Indeed, about half of the Palestinians were driven from their homeland while the other half remained. This is also true for the city of Jerusalem which was split in two halves, an Eastern part (that remained Palestinian) and a Western part (that became Zionist and from which the Palestinians were driven away). Exactly as verse 2 says it would happen: Half of the city went into exile and the rest was not cut off from the city. This has been the situation form 1948 onward. However, the situation of the Palestinians has constantly deteriorated, especially after 1967, when their 45% part of the land was occupied by Israel and has been slowly taken from under them in the course of decades. Since October 2023, a whole scale genocide has set in, not only in Gaza, but also in the West-Bank, be it slower and hidden. The last week of Daniel's prophecy of 70 weeks was started at the December 29, 2022 start of the fascist Netanyahu Government. We expect to be very close to the fulfillment of verse 3.

We find the parallel passage of verses 1-2 in Zechariah 12:2,3 - 'I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem. On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves.' The 'siege of both Judah and Jerusalem' is exactly the same as 'the city will be captured' in Zech.14:2. 'The surrounding peoples' and 'all nations of the earth, gathered against Jerusalem', are the Zionist Jews that have stolen almost all of the land from the indigenous Palestinians, who are the true descendants of ancient Israel. These Zionist Jews live all around the land of Israel also in the occupied territories in huge settlements of thousands of homes, while destroying Palestinian homes. They are in complete control of every square inch of the land through an enormous army that is backed by the US-empire with many billions in weaponry. They are making the life of the Palestinians as miserable as they possibly can, in the hope that they will finally leave. They are truly 'gathered against Jerusalem'.

This will end. It will end - not when the UN speaks its condemnation on Israel's behavior or when a new resolution in the UN will pass without a veto by the USA. It will end when the Lord will put an end to it. And He will put an end to it. He will 'make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations - all who try to move it will injure themselves'. That is the end of what we have been witnessing for over a century, that the indigenous population of Palestinians won't leave, however harassed they are, even up to the point of being subjected to the most horrific genocide in history. They are as an immovable rock. The end of it will be the injuring of those that for so long have been deceiving and oppressing and robbing and murdering Palestinians with seeming impunity. The injury that is spoken of will be disastrous. All of these Zionists that came from all over the world to take what wasn't theirs and that surround Jerusalem, will be sent reeling. It will start at the second attack on the land, mentioned above, from the North, killing 2/3rds of the population (Zech.13:8), which would concern mainly Zionists - for that is where Iran's rockets will be pointed at. The twelve day war of June has pointed out that Israel's air defense is no match for Iran's rockets, not even if it is expanded with a US thaad- system.

Verse 3

The shock for the nations that invaded the holy land however will not start with the devastating attack from the North. Another shock will come first, the interference of the Lord Himself. 'He will fight against those nations as He fought on the day of battle'. This means that there is a parallel with the old testament battles of the Lord. The first battle that comes to mind is the one against Farao and his Egyptian armies, which were destroyed at the Red Sea. Indeed there is quite a parallel between the very first rescue operation of God on behalf of his people and this one, at the end of the age, as we shall see.

Verse 4

The feet of the Lord will stand on the Mount of Olives, which would be a fulfillment of what the angels said to the disciples at Jesus' ascension: 'This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven'. (Acts 1:11) The ascension of Jesus also took place on the Mount of Olives (Acts 1:12). This is the start of that which was asked by the disciples at the occasion of the ascension: 'Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?', to which the Lord answered: 'It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth' (Acts 1:6,7). After 2000 years of witnessing on Jesus all over the world the kingdom to Israel is finally coming into view - but not the genocidal Zionist apartheid state that has been raging in the Middle East for the past century. No, it will be the true Israel, consisting of the true Israeli's, the Palestinians. This kingdom of heaven, kingdom of God will start with the feet of Jesus touching the Mount of Olives and with nothing else.

The feet of Jesus touching the Mount of Olives will induce an earthquake which will split the Mountain from East to West - half of the mountain moving North and half of it moving South. It was from this mountain that He gave his Endtime discourse, in which He foretold that earthquakes would shake the world. The Endtime will be characterized by earthquakes. Earthquakes accompanied his death and his resurrection. They will also accompany his return. Israel is located in a geologically very troubled region. Israel has been hit by an earthquake ten times during the last 20 words, 9 of which were in or near the Jordan. This has to do with the African and Arab plates,  which come together in the Jordan Valley. From there there is a fault line in a westerly direction, across the mount of Olives (the Palmyra fold belt). In 1964, this fault line in the Mount of Olives was discovered during the construction of the Intercontinental Hotel (later called: Seven Arches Hotel). The construction of this hotel was then moved in a southerly direction. The Israeli newspaper Haaretz headlined in February 2019 that a major earthquake in southern Israel is hundreds of years overdue.

Verse 5

The purpose of the earthquake and the splitting of the Mountain of Olives is to open an escape route for God's persecuted people. They will flee by God's mountain valley, the valley that was formed by the earthquake. It is compared to the flight from the earthquake in the days of king Uzziah. But the reason for the flight is very different. Then it was the earthquake. In the Endtime it will be the persecution, the threat of all the nations that were gathered to Jerusalem to fight against it - a powerful army, equipped with the most sophisticated of technology and weaponry, suffocating God's people. For in order to flee for an earthquake, one has to move in opposite direction and not towards it, the valley that is formed by it.

But here we have something similar as what happened at the Exodus, when the Red Sea was split and the Israeli's escaped in between the walls of water, which thereafter came down upon the pursuing Egyptian armies. Therefore: 'the Lord will go out and fight against those nations, as he fought on a day of battle'. Only this time, it is no water but earth that is split and moves to two sides. We believe this verse runs parallel to Revelation 12:14-17,  where we see the woman, God's people that once brought forth Messiah, being persecuted by the dragon. When she is lifted up by wings of a great eagle to move her to her place, where she is to be fed, the dragon, the old serpent,  old, 'spewed water like a river, to overtake the woman and sweep her away with the torrent. But the earth helped the woman by opening its mouth and swallowing the river that the dragon had spewed out of his mouth.' (Rev.12:15,16) What else can the water out of the serpent's mouth be than murdering and destroying armies, the armies of the empire, embodied in the so called 'Israel Defense Forces', which were formed from former terrorist and paramilitary organisations that executed the Nakba, displacing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians? This is why the Endtime city of Jerusalem is 'figuratively called Sodom and Egypt' (Rev.11:8) - It is the center of an unprecedented onslaught against God's people, just like Egypt was during the Exile.  Therefore, the earth, coming to the rescue of the fleeing woman, could very well be the Mount of Olives that was split into a valley, through which God's people will flee as they once fled through the Red Sea that was divided. And like the waters of the Red Sea flowed back upon the chasing Egyptians, so will another quake cause stones and mud to rain down upon the Zionist soldiers that are acting on behalf of the US-empire and the dragon behind it. The soldiers of the Israeli Defense Force will be buried alive.

There are at least two other parallel scriptures, showing this event from different angles. The first is Zechariah 12:10. The battling of the Lord on behalf of his persecuted people will be combined with his revelation to them: '...then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn'. Their salvation will be accompanied with their total repentance and conversion to 'the gospel of the kingdom'. There won't be any conversion to Christianity for the age of the church will have ended shortly before in the rapture of the church, which was hidden from the Old Testament. The gospel of the kingdom is the heralding of the coming Jesus Messiah, who will reign the world once He will have cleansed it from all evil.

The second parallel passage is Revelation 6:1,2, the opening of the first seal and the appearance of the white horse. The white horse does not represent deception through antichrist as many believe, for which we refer to Revelation 6. The white horse represents the ultimate victory that Jesus will grant the true people of God, the persecuted Palestinians. The bow speaks of a conquering power from a distance, as we have seen, the feet of Jesus, standing on the Mount of Olives, still at a distance from Jerusalem. This is not yet Armageddon. The events at the Mount of Olives, form the start of a development that will end in total victory for God's people. The crown of victory is already given: '...and he went forth conquering, and to conquer'.

In a literal translation, verse 5 ends with: 'The Lord my God will enter, and all the saints with Thee'. This sentence stands on its own. It is not a repetition of 'his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives'. The entering of the Lord God is the second coming of Jesus, which won't happen directly after the earthquake that will split the Mount of Olives. If that event corresponds with the swallowing up of the serpent's river by the earth in Revelation 12, the splitting of the mountain will happen before the start of the 3.5 year great tribulation. The woman still has to be fed in her place for 'times, time and half a time' and the dragon still has to wage war 'with the rest of her offspring', the Palestinians all over the world, that will have turned to Jesus Christ. After the 3.5 years of great tribulation, the Lord God in the Person of Jesus Christ, will enter his creation together with 'the saints'- all those that were part of the rapture, an event that was hidden in Old Testament scriptures, which will precede the 'splitting of the Mount of Olives'. For a possible time frame of these events, based on the stars in heaven, see: Endtime Approach in Stars

The parallel texts of the last line of verse 5 are:

1. Col.3:4 - 'When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in glory'

2. 2 Thess.1:10 - '...When He shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.'

3. Rev.19:14 - 'And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses.'

Verses 6 and 7

The expression 'on that day' is found 21 times in the book of Zechariah. The context of the expression often shows that it is not meant as a day of 24 hours but of a very specific time periode during which the Lord will act on behalf of his people followed by the situation after their redemption. We believe that we are about to enter this time period.

However in the instance of verse 6 it might actually be only one day, resembling the day of Joshua, when he ordered the sun and the moon to stand still during the battle against the Amorites (Joshua 10:12-14). That would mean that the return of the Lord will be accompanied by enormous astronomical shifts, concerning the rotations of the earth.

Verse 8

Together with an astronomical change, there will be a geographical change. Living water, out of unknown sources, will flow from Jerusalem to the East and to the West. According to the book of Zechariah, the Eastward river will enter the Dead Sea which will make the salty water there to become fresh. The source of water is not dependent on rainfall, therefore the water will flow in the summer as well as in the winter.

Verse 9

The short verse 9, which is almost heedlessly stated among the enormity of astronomical, geological and cultural changes, contains the sole purpose to which history is being steered: the central position of the Lord in his creation. It is what was stated by Peter in Acts 4, when the Pharisees asked him to speak no longer to anyone in this name: 'for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved'. (Acts 4:12) And here it is: 'The Lord will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one Lord, and his name the only name.' Finally the nations, the peoples of the earth have come to the recognition of the one truth: Jesus, the Way, the Truth and the Life and no respected soul will ever give honor to any other name than only to the name of Jesus Christ, whom the world will have recognize as the Lord God, the Most High, the Creator, who once had come in the shape of a humble carpenter in Nazareth.
